DIGITAL ART 210 -- PHOTOSHOP PROBLEMS

REPAIR THE DAMAGED MATISSE PAINTING

The digital copy of a famous painting by Henri Matisse is shown below, and it has been digitally damaged (e.g. it has been torn in two, the right side is "faded" and discolored compared to the left "normal" side, and vandal with a can of pink spray paint has defaced portions of the painting. Your job as the art restoration expert at a local museum is to restore the digital Matisse to it's original version using a variety of tools and techniques in Photoshop. Of course, the first thing to do is to copy and save a version of the JPG below (holding down the mouse button while over the image) to your disk for your use. Open it in Photoshop and begin your restoration project. If you do the job well, the restored painting should look seamlessly whole (no rips or gaps) with balanced colors and no evidence of the spraypaint damage. Good luck. See text underneath the painting for a hint to get you started and a list of tools and methods you might consider using on your project.

Working hint: when you get your torn Matisse file opened in Photoshop, find a way to put the two "halves" of the damaged painting in separate layers (you can leave the left portion in "background" and put the right portion in a new layer above)

tools/methods to consider using: selection tools (e.g. lasso, move tool, magic wand, etc); free transform, rubber stamp (cloning) tool, HSL adjustment sliders, etc.
