Both of these logos were designed in Illustrator 8, saved as native files (for later modifying and re-editing) and exported as 72 ppi RGB TIFF files for creation of transparent GIF's in Photoshop 5. In Photoshop, files were converted to indexed mode (exact), then palettes modified for transparency and saved in GIF format using the GIF 89a export. From original native Illustrator and .tif files in the 150-250 kB range, the transparent GIF files were only 17kB. The idea is to selectively remove just the right amount of colors from the indexed paletted to allow smooth transparency on web pages, but not so many as to cause major loss of image quality due to edge aliasing.
