Specialized chemical and structural features of its cuticle give this tiny parasitic wasp in Baltic amber the appearance of having a metallic body. This specimen, part of a comprehensive set of amber inclusions from an 1898 private scientific collection, and now on public display in Germany, is probably approx. 35-40 MYr old and in an excellent state of preservation. Wings, antennae, compound eyes, and limbs show intact features. Small wasps such as this were probably quite common in the ancient amber forests, predators that parasitized other insects that dwelled among the foliage, including amber resin-bearing trees.
